Called at Mrs. Blakeslee's this evening, had an introduction to Miss Crossman a lady from Brooklyn visiting here.

Sophia came down here this afternoon on the milk train with "Freddie."

"Our people" are all at Mr. M. Cleveland's today. My sister is ill. Wrote a letter to Annie.
Monday, March 7, 1870
Stormed very hard all day today. Visited the Post Office this afternoon which was the extent of my travels today.

Sophia went home today, father carried her, as he wished to make a few purchases in W.
Wednesday, March 9, 1870
Came to Collinsville this afternoon. Called to see Miss Annie this evening but did not find her at home. Started for meeting Miss Louise and her cousin Georgie but lost the way and finally concluded to attend the "Old Folk's Kitchen" in New Hartford.

Left Collinsville about 8 o'clock this morning, called at Alfred Merrill's half an hour and arrived at home at 10 A.M.

Received a letter from old "Ap" Bella Dewey containing her picture.
Saturday, March 12, 1870
Sent in my name to the Registrar of the Town with notice of my intention to be made a Free-man before the coming election.
[March 14-15 has been torn out of the diary.]
Wednesday March 16, 1870
Snowed all day today and been very blustering also.

Went up through to Miss Hayden's with men and 9 pairs of oxen and shoveled out the drifts this forenoon. Went this evening to the B.O. Father traded horses tonight: $75. to boot. That Black-hawk colt was the smartest stepper in this latitude and the old gent ought to have his necktie squeezed for trading.

West Methodist meeting today, fell asleep as usual, mighty fine sermon I suppose, didn't hear much of it. Our Minister has a very soothing voice, like to hear him preach. Would go to meeting oftener if there were any interesting demoiselles in the congregation.

Went to Wolcottville [ed. Torrington] today with Brainerd Beaney and was admitted as an elector.

A Ball tonight in Bakersville for the benefit of L.W. Hart.
I have come to the conclusion not to attend any more dances this spring.

Stormed all day very hard, did not attend church.

Stormy again today. Came up to Winsted on the milk train.
Tuesday, March 29, 1870
Came down on the 2 o'clock mail train. Received a letter from the prettiest young lady in New England. A.C. Barber urged me to teach a writing school in the brick school house; I am afraid my attainments in penmanship are insufficient for a "professional."
